Resolving Long-Term Headaches and Visual Disturbances Through C0-1 Adjustment
Case Overview: Male, 50s
This patient had suffered from severe headaches and anemia since elementary school. Over the years, he was seen by various headache specialists and was once diagnosed with “abnormal brain wave activity.”
Once a headache began, it was so intense that medication became ineffective, leaving him unable to move. To avoid this, he started taking strong painkillers preventively whenever he felt a headache coming on — up to 4 to 5 times a week.
He also reported occasional blind spots in his vision, where parts of his visual field would disappear temporarily.
Clinical Findings and Treatment
Upon examination, it was found that the C0-1 joint — the joint between the skull and the first cervical vertebra — was severely adhered and lacked mobility.
We began by applying gentle mobilization techniques, which led to about 70% improvement. However, no further progress was seen beyond that point.
After careful evaluation, a direct adjustment to the C0-1 joint was performed. Immediately afterward, the patient’s face turned pale, indicative of his anemia symptoms returning briefly. But from that moment on, there was a drastic improvement:
- His headaches were significantly reduced.
- Visual blind spots almost completely disappeared.
Conclusion: C0-1 Dysfunction as a Root Cause
This case illustrates how long-standing and severe symptoms can often be rooted in dysfunction at the C0-1 level of the cervical spine. We’ve seen numerous patients with similar outcomes after adjusting this specific segment.
